If you’re planning a trip to Girona in Spain you’ll be happy to know that there will more than likely be at least one festival on during the time that you’re going to be there. There are many different types of festivals in Girona so there’s no matter what you’re interested in, you should find a festival or two that you’ll enjoy. If you don’t know much about the festivals that take place in Girona there’s nothing to worry about, you should know just about everything that there is to know about the festivals by the end of this article. Here are some of the most popular festivals that are in Girona during the year:

  • St. Narcis Fair – The St. Narcis fair is easily one of the most popular festivals in Girona. It lasts for just over a week, usually during the end of October so if you’re in the area during this time it’s certainly worth looking out for. The festival is full of all different kinds of things so it’s hard to know what to expect from it! There’s usually a ceremony at the town hall within the first day or two of the festival. After this, a parade is usually held and when you’re finished at the parade you can go shopping at the market stalls which are literally everywhere that you go! You can get all sorts of food at the stalls too which is really handy if you’d like to try out some local cuisine.
  • Three Kings Festival – If you’re in Girona at the start of the year you really should try to go to the three kings festival. This festival is like a little Christmas for the Spanish, since they get some presents at the start of January (not forgetting about Christmas day either!) from the Kings. It’s pretty much like a massive parade, with loads of floats for you to take a look at as well as people dressed up in really fancy costumes. If you’ve got children they might even get some sweets from the floats too, since most floats have people that throw sweets in to the crowd! So, as you can see, this festival is for the adults as well as the kids, so why not go to it next time you get the chance?
  • Saint Juan Festival – The Saint Juan festival is celebrated all across Spain but one of the best places to celebrate it is in Girona. This festival is definitely one of the best festivals throughout Spain, with loads of people attending it in Girona every year. The festival takes place towards the end of June, which means that the weather is usually very nice. The festival really begins at night, when fireworks start going off every couple of seconds and there are dancers on every street of the city. Most of the time, people just relax by the bonfire and eat cake (known as Coca de San Juan). The festival is all celebrating the summer solstice and celebrations happen in other places in Europe, but you can be sure that you’ll experience something different in Girona.
